Hi, I am trying to find information about James Black. I have the following bit of brief information. "Captain Black served throughout the World War with His Majesty's Irish Regiment of Foot Guards (Irish Guards). He was one of the officers who came to the United States with the British Mission in November, 1917. He rejoined his regiment in France in June of the following year. He served with the army of occupation in Cologne after the armistice. Captain Black has been decorated with the British Military Cross and the French Croix de Guerre."
Any idea how I might find more information about Capt. James Black?
Thanks,
Mary

Hi Jane the madras fusiliers [102nd regiment of foot] was a regiment in the east india company formed in the 17th century it later in 1881 became the 1st Battallion DUBLIN FUSILIERS. The 103rd regiment of foot [royal bombay fusiliers] became the 2nd Bn. The Dublin fusiliers association maybe worth contacting as they have a very good database or they maybe able to point you in a more refined search

My great great grandfather's name was James Kendall. He was in the Madras Fusiliers. Could someone advise me as to where to look for information about him? Many thanks.

Hi,
My grandfather from Carrick on Shannon was a Connaught Ranger in the Boer War, I would be honored if there were available a breast patch that would be worn upon a blazer, or any other collectables from that era. My grandfather's name was James Conlon. Thanks so much for your consideration. Bill Shine

Hi terry if you are enquiring about the dress worn during the laying up of the colours ceremony in winsdor castle all the colour parties of the disbanded regiments wore their khaki service dress .The escort to the colour parties came from the coldstream guards dressed in their full dress uniform.

Hi Marion welcome to the site searching for survivors of the great war is a little bit harder than casualties i think your best shot is the national archives in kew as most if not all these records are still in england you will need some basic info like number rank name if you have medals this info will be on the medals
you can check his medal index card online from NATIONAL ARCHIVES IN KEW also chris bakers site the long trail is worth checking out he also does research for people looking for the type of info you want

Am researching family history - my grand uncle served in wwl and though he did survive was injured during the war. Have no idea what his regiment was but was wondering are there any comprehensive records of Irish soldiers who served and survived the war. Also if there are any pointers where to go next would be great

Hi Terry
Welcome to the site, the dubs and the munsters wore the busbys with hackles white over green for the munsters blue over green for the dubs, the connaught rangers wore the home service dark blue helmet, the leinsters a dark blue peaked cap with red band. mc cances history of the munsters and the history of the dublin fusiliers both have info on this period plus Harriss book on the irish regiments. I am not sure of the dress of the royal irish rifles but will check it out

Hello! I'm a belgian student currently doing an erasmus exchange in Dublin. I am studying journalism in Belgium at the university of Louvain, and in one of my courses, we are writing a book about WWI in Belgium. We are interviewing decendants of soldiers who have fought during the Great War to have their personal version of their ancestor's stories, as they remember it. And I would like very much to meet some relatives of Irish soldiers who fought in the Flanders Fields. Could anyone tell me how to meet such people? Thank you very much!
