My father was in the Welsh Regiment and was a signaller, One uncle was in the Cavalry and his saddle and equipment can be seen at my exhibit along with other items used by my family during the Great war. My two brothers were in the RAF during the second world war and served as Wireless operators / Air gunners in Beaufort Torpedo Bombers and Lancaster bombers, I was a Pilot during my time in the RAF. My collection is extensive and covers the period from the Zulu wars (Rorkes Drift) to 1956.

About Me
Our family interest in the Great War has focussed on the role of the 7th Service Battalion - Leinster Regt where on 31/7/17, my partner's Great Granfather was killed whilst on a working party. He spent his short service life serving in the Ypres area and is buried in the Potijze Chateau Lawn Cemetery. Pte William Cahilll was a Westmeath man who enlisted in Mullingar and left a wife and a young fmily behind. Not an awful lot of information was passed down the family about this man but our research established the signifiant role played by all Irishmen in the Great War.
We love the website and this goes a long way to acknowledging the effort and sacrifices of Irishmen serving in all theatres of the war. |

About Me
I am a song writer and I was drawn to this site as it so faithfully records and supports the experiences of Irish men who fought in World War 1. It is not a part of our history that I ever learned in school. But my husband told me about his Grandfather who fought at the Battle of the Somme and based on this, I have written a song called 'No man's army'. You can hear this song through the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4p5mRIfiTQ |
